September – December 2026
NippleJesus – by Nick Hornby
First up, with tickets on sale now for the Premiere, 26th September and second scheduling, 10th of October, we proudly present Nick Hornby’s NippleJesus at the Apollo Art Gallery!
Our comedy’s hero doesn’t know the first thing about art. A former nightclub bouncer, Dave unexpectedly lands a job as a security guard at a contemporary art gallery, where he’s assigned to protect a controversial artwork. The piece measures 3 metres high by 1.6 metres wide and… well, let’s just say it was created using a rather unusual technique. Some people find it offensive, and it’s open to countless interpretations. But Dave’s opinion of art—and of this particular painting—gradually begins to change. Before long, he is passionately defending the artwork against his wife, the media, and a growing crowd of outraged religious fanatics. Packed with comic situations, colourful characters, and unexpected twists, the story eventually reaches a breaking point, and Dave finds himself facing a whole new set of problems from the most unexpected direction.
World-renowned author Nick Hornby’s short story has been adapted into a site-specific gallery theatre production directed by Géza Bodor, with Scott Alexander Young, as Dave.
Meet the Talent!
The part of Dave will be performed by Scott Alexander Young. If you don’t recognise him, it’s only because Scott disappears into his roles. Born in New Zealand by mistake, Scott’s work as a travel writer took him from Alaska to Buenos Aires, Lebanon to Florence. A late start in acting has since led to more than sixty screen credits alongside many of the industry’s biggest names. Over the years he has portrayed everyone from President Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger to Russian gangsters, CIA Director Stan Turner and Pliny the Elder. When he’s not acting or writing, Scott runs Rogues Gallery in Budapest, an arts salon where he occasionally persuades unsuspecting visitors to buy his so-called “Cocktail Napkin Art.”
Meet the Director!
Géza Bodor is a Budapest-based actor, director, producer and translator with more than twenty years of experience in theatre. He has performed in over fifty productions spanning everything from classical drama and improvisation to immersive and site-specific work. As the founder of Táncolj Majom Productions, he focuses on bringing outstanding contemporary plays to Hungarian audiences, producing works such as Nick Hornby’s Nipple Jesus and Tim Crouch’s An Oak Tree. He is particularly drawn to bold new writing and international collaborations, which means he spends an unreasonable amount of time reading plays and persuading people to stage them. When he’s not in a rehearsal room, he’s usually working out how to squeeze one more production into the season.
Your ticket includes a curated tour of the Apollo’s current collection, the show as well as a glass of wine (or juice) after the performance, as there will be a lot to discuss and share about the show.
Budapest English Theatre and Táncolj Majom productions, present this tour de force to our English audience! The Hungarian translation, CiciKrisztus has enjoyed critical acclaim and full house audiences since its debut in September 2024. We are confident that NippleJesus, in the original language, will be just as riveting as what Hungarian audiences has experienced for the past two years!

February/March 2027
Make it count! by James Sweeney
Coming in February, we have a new script by James Sweeney in production! Make it count, a multi-award-winning 90-minute, three-character comedy-drama that received a sold-out premiere run. He’s also the writer of Life Debt, an international award-winning feature film screenplay. A staged reading of MIC will take place at Langham Court Theatre in Victoria, Canada, on September 12th 2026.There will also be a reading at Copenhagen Theatre Circle, Denmark, on October 14th 2026.A full production of MIC will take place in Hungary during February 2027-March 2027, with the Budapest English Theatre. James was selected for New Perspectives’ 2026/27 New Associates programme and is developing his next stage plays: The Last Next Time, Thirty-Eight Times and The Imposition. He also writes for film and television, creating bold, emotionally layered work with elements of black humour.
BET will produce a fully staged production. The venue and final dates are to be announced soon, but we will be performing this production in a theatre on the “Pest Broadway”, Nagymező utca (If the theatre gods smile upon us!)
The production will be directed by Robert Cogo-Fawcett. The creative will be our own BET team with an original, new design for the Budapest run of this production. Auditions will be announced early December 2026, so keep an ear out for the call!
Lastly, there will be another production slotting in during the winter months visiting from Austria, but more about this one later!
